Super Bowl Appetizer- Sausage Poblano

In celebration of the much anticipated Super Bowl 2014, Shiner Smokehouse decided to start off the year with a mouthwatering appetizer recipe sure to blow the socks off all of your guests at your Super Bowl party on Feb. 2nd. This one is a keeper; everyone is going to be begging you for the recipe. Its bold complex flavors is the perfect snack while you drink your favorite Shiner Beer and watch the Seattle Seahawks battle it out on the field against the Denver Broncos.

Now let’s get to it. This is what you need and how you do it:


  • 12 oz. package of Shiner Smokehouse Jalapeno-Cheese Smoked Sausage
  • 2 tsp. butter
  • 1 cup red onion, chopped
  •  1 cup yellow onion, chopped
  •  ½ cup red bell pepper
  •  ½ cup green bell pepper
  •  ½ cup cilantro, chopped
  •  2 tsp. minced garlic
  • 4 Poblano peppers

Poblano Cream Sauce (Optional)

  • ½ cup onions
  • ½ cup cilantro
  • 2 tsp. cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tsp. minced garlic
  • 2 tsp. butter
  • 1 cup Mexican Cream
  • 1 small can green chili peppers

Preparation Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Coat baking pan with non-stick cooking spray. Cut Poblanos lengthwise, discarding seeds.  Spread thin coat of cream cheese on each Poblano. Sauté onions, peppers, garlic, and cilantro until tender. Cut Shiner Smokehouse Jalapeno-Cheese Smoked Sausage into ¼” slices.Toss sausage in a frying pan for 2-3 minutes (optional).  Arrange 3-4 pieces of sausage on each Poblano. Top with onion mixture.  Cover and bake for 20-25 minutes, until Poblanos are tender. Optional: Top with Poblano Cream Sauce and sprinkle with pecans. Bake for an additional 7-9 minutes.
